Les Arcs

About the Resort

Les Arcs is a ski resort in the Savoie area of the French Alps. Rather than being a single resort it’s actually made up of seven separate areas or villages, each with its own character. Travelling to Les Arcs  In terms of location, Les Arcs is in the east of France not far from the Italian border.

Villages

Located at around 2100m, Arc 2000 was named to evoke visions of the future … in the 1960s. It’s largely made up of sizable futuristic accommodation blocks. Arc 2000 is another good compact option for families and, like most Les Arc locations, access to the slopes is simple for all abilities.  Read more.

Arc 1950 is where to stay if you want a high altitude base that also has plenty of character. It was purpose built, but very much in the style of a traditional mountain village. Buildings are well designed and are clustered around attractive traffic free outdoor spaces. There is also a good selection of restaurants and bars.  Read more.

Arc 1800 is now the biggest resort in Les Arcs. It is fairly spread out with a number of newer buildings in the higher areas of the resort. Most properties are ski in / ski out and 1800 is possibly the liveliest of the resorts in terms of nightlife, with a couple of nightclubs and bars playing live music. Read more.

Arec 1600 is the original ski station of les Arcs and sits at the head of the funicular railway that comes up from Bourg St Maurice (which has fast train links throughout Europe). The architecture feels a little dated when compared to options such as Arc 1950, but it remains a good option for skiers of all abilities. Read more.

Bourg St Maurice is something of a local hub, so is a lively and characterful base, although it’s definitely more focussed on relaxed bars than big nights out. Transport links are good, so you can visit a number of local resorts by bus as well as taking the (7 minute) funicular up to Arc 1600.  Read more.
